Transfers, fees and returns

Each transaction gets a kind: payment, refund, returned item, bank fee, internal transfer or interest — from the description, or from the AI when the description is unclear.

  • Internal transfers, fees and interest are set aside as not a payment by default. You can reopen any of them.
  • A returned (NSF) item is imported even when money out is left out, and linked to the payment it cancels when the amount and the reference or payer allow it. Mark the original as returned so the balance shows it unpaid again (and add an NSF fee if you charge one).

The details read from a description (payer, payment rail, kind, reference, what the payer wrote, the purpose) show on the review screen with their source — the parser, the AI or you — and you can edit them.
